Blood Moon Dates 2015: Rare Lunar Eclipse Occurs Easter Weekend
Sky watchers have a limited amount of time this Easter weekend to see a rare lunar eclipse that will make the moon appear to have a reddish hue.
According to US pastor John Hagee, this event hints towards significant events found in the Bible, stating that the "Blood Moon" will hint towards a major event that could happen this weekend. NASA, however, has announced that the color of the moon will not bring about any significant events.
Hagee said that the King James Bible says, "The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord comes."
Because the Blood Moon falls on Easter weekend, Hagee stated that "something dramatic will happen which will change the whole world."
However, NASA reports the details of how a Blood Moon occurs and stated that the effects are harmless.
"During the eclipse, the moon often looks reddish because sunlight has passed through Earth's atmosphere, which filters out most of its blue light," the space program said in a statement Tuesday.
Hagee stated in his book called Four Blood Moons that an event called a Tetrad involves four successive total blood red lunar eclipses each followed by six full moons. According to Tru News, this event has happened a handful of times over the past 2,000 years.
Those who want to watch it have a five minute window this weekend to watch the Blood Moon. According to Daily Mail, people living on the West Coast of the US will see the moon turn red from 7:58 am while others in Australia, Japan, China and Southeast Asia will see the total phases for up to 12 minutes from 7:54 am EDT.
