'Blade Runner 2' Spoilers, Latest News & Update: Film Sequel Titled ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ Runs In VR

New details on the title of "Blade Runner" film have surfaced and as per reports, the upcoming film is set to be called "Blade Runner 2049" and it is set to run under a new division in VR.

Alcon Entertainment is working on the film, alongside the virtual reality company Oculus, Deadline has learned. As per the publication, the film is set to be under the new company arm Alcon Interactive and the VR experiences will be exclusively distributed on the Oculus platform. It is added that Oculus stage investor and lawyyer Dan Offner is set to be the Alcon Interactive Interim Head.

"Sicario," "Incdendies," and "Prisoners" director Denis Villenueve is set to helm the film while "Green Lantern's" Michael Green is on board to pen the film script, along with "The Martian's" Ridley Scott and "Rome Adventure's" Hampton Fancher. The latter two also collaborated on the script of the film's 1982 predecessor film of the same name.

The film's plot is still unknown at the moment, but it stars Sylvia Hoeks, Dave bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, and Harrison Ford, who will reprise his role as Rick Deckard.

Meanwhile, the 1982 film centers on a blade runner, who has to hunt and take down four replicants who took a ship in space and have come back to Earth to find their creator. According to Ars Technica, the "80s film franchise is filled with possibilities, with its intelligent writing, sharp acting, and skilled directing.

"Blade Runner 2049" is slated to be released in United States theaters on Oct. 5, 2017.
