‘Blade Runner 2’ Movie Director Set To Film In Summer, Casts Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling
With Denis Villenueve's "Blade Runner 2" plotted on its cinematic timeline, it is reported that the next film is expected to commence its production in the third quarter of this year.
"Blade Runner 2" will start filming in July, according to Deadline. As per the the publication, the film is set to be run by Warner Bros., which has north American distribution rights through its deal with Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove of Alcon.
Based on "Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human," a science fiction novel authored by K.W. Jeter., "Blade Runner 2" is set to share elements from Philip K. Dick's novel titled "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep."
The upcoming film's predecessor, "Blade Runner," was directed by "The Martian" director Ridley Scott and was released in 1982. The film followed a blade runner, played by "Blade Runner," "Star Wars," and "Indiana Jones" star Harrison Ford, as he pushed and tried to terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space.
The film stars Ford, who is reprising his role as Rick Deckard, who is set to have a supporting role in the film, according to The Verge. "Drive," "Crazy, Stupid, Love," and "The Ideas of March" actor Ryan Gosling also stars in the film; however, his role is still unknown. Exact details on additional characters and cast members are yet to be revealed.
With Villenueve set to take the helm of the film, "Green Lantern" writer Michael Green and "Blade Runner" writer Hampton Fancher are on board to pen the film script. Tim Gamble and Frank Glustra will executive produce the film while Scott, Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, Bud Yorkin, and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce the film.
Since "Blade Runner 2" is in its early phase of development, its release date is yet to be revealed.
