BlackBerry MWC 2015: Canadian Tech Firm Unveils Dual-Curve Smartphone - BlackBerry Leap

Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry unveiled its latest touch screen and keyboard slider smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday.

According to Latin Post, BlackBerry took to its official Twitter handle to announce, "What a Surprise! Ron just pulled out a dual-curved, all-touch display with a Keyboard -- yes a slider device! #MWC15"

In fact, the company's tweet referred to Ron Louks, BlackBerry president (devices and emerging solutions), who displayed the curved display smartphone akin to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Apart from the touch screen, the device also comes with a slide-out keyboard.

Company CEO John Chen has dubbed the latest BlackBerry device, which is yet to be named, as "the slider." Addressing an audience at the Mobile World Congress, Chen announced that apart from the slider the company will also release a second Porsche edition BlackBerry, in addition to another keyboard smartphone.

It may be recalled that the company launched four devices in 2014 - which included a budget BlackBerry Z3, a Porsche edition BlackBerry, the Passport and the BlackBerry Classic.

Apart from the curved-display smartphone, the Canadian tech company also introduced BlackBerry Leap, its new touchscreen smartphone at the ongoing Mobile World Congress. This handset runs with the BlackBerry 10 OS operating system, has 16GB of storage and boasts 25 hours of battery life. The BlackBerry Leap comes with a 5-inch screen coupled with 1,280x720-pixel HD touch display rendering 293 pixels per inch. Its 8-megapixel primary camera offers 1080p HD video recording.

According to Louks, the BlackBerry Leap aims at the "young career builder, someone looking to make a difference."

Meanwhile, while BlackBerry has once again launched a touchscreen smartphone with its Leap model, Chen said the company's main focus will be on keyboard products.

As of now, the company has yet to announce the official release date for the BlackBerry Leap.
