BlackBerry Android Smartphone News: New Handset from Canadian Tech Titan Codenamed Prague

BlackBerry's plans to launch a new smartphone on Google's Android operating system has drawn a lot of attention from tech experts as well as enthusiasts in recently. In November, reports claimed that the Android-powered smartphone has been code named BlackBerry Venice, but a recent report in N4BB, a tech website focused on the Canadian telecommunications major, says that the new phone has been code named BlackBerry Prague.

According to IB Times, leaked detailed related to BlackBerry Venice's specifications hint that the purported device will be a premium slider model. On the contrary, N4BB suggests that the first Android smartphone from BlackBerry will target emerging markets with low-end specs and be reasonably priced. However, the latest report doesn't suggest that BlackBerry will not come out with its Venice smartphone later this year. Although the company is planning to launch the smartphone in 2015, it is possible that the release date will be pushed further.

N4BB also speculates the other Android-powered smartphone from the Canadian firm dubbed as BlackBerry Prague, is scheduled for August 2015 release. However, details regarding the specs of this device are not available at the moment.

All these notwithstanding, questions related to how BlackBerry plans to use the Android OS in its smartphone are still unanswered.

According to N4BB, "It is still unclear what the Android operating system on a BlackBerry will be like. It would make sense for BlackBerry to have designed a BB10 skin for Android, to give it a more seamless integration to its device portfolio."
