'Birdman' and 'Grand Budapest Hotel' News: Top Costume Designers Win Guild Awards
It's no secret that the Oscar nominated movies, "Birdman' and "The Grand Budapest' won awards at the Guild Awards recently.
"Birdman,' which was directed by Michael Keaton, won the prize for excellence in contemporary film, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel,' directed by Wes Anderson, won the period film category and Colleen Atwood received the guild's award for fantasy film for "Into the Woods,' according to BBC.
Collecting his award for "Birdman', Albert Wolsky said of director Alejandro Inarritu: "I was thrilled when I finally had the chance to work with Alejandro. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. It was a real labyrinth. It was endless. We only had six weeks to shoot. It was like being thrown out of a cannon," according to BBC.
Canonero and Atwood are nominated for Oscars, along with the costume designers for "Inherent Vice,' "Maleficent' and "Mr. Turner,' according to Los Angeles Times.
The ceremony, which was hosted by Emmy Rossum, was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles Times.
Naomi Watts was presented with the Lacoste Spotlight Award at the ceremony. "Boyhood' writer-director Richard Linklater, costume designer Aggie Guerard Rodgersa nd designer and scholar Dr. Deborah Nadoolman Landis were also given honorary awards at the ceremony.
"I'm here as a director to tell all costume designers: 'We're all pretty full of ourselves, we think we can do everything, but I don't know one director who thinks he can be a costume designer. We're in awe of your talents,'" Linklater said while receiving his award.
During the event, Deborah Nadoolman Landis received the 2015 Edith Head Award for the Advancement and Education of the Art of Costume Design, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Amidst all the guesses for the Oscar awards, these awards only make it tougher to decide who will make the cut eventually.
