Billboard Music Awards 2015 News: Kanye West was Overly Censored During His Performance?
It was a memorable yet disappointing performance for some fans of Kanye West last Sunday night at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. As the famous RnB singer, West goes on stage to perform some of his hit songs with all his usual performance lights and drama, most of his lyrics however were censored which led the artist to complain and be disappointed as well.
While the audience are quite anxious about the usual epic performance of West, it was however surprisingly "over-censored" according to West's representative who just released a statement complaining about the said performance which censored even non-profane lyrics in the show's purpose of submitting to the unwarranted censorship that the industry requires.
"Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards," the star's rep told E! News in a statement. "Non-profane lyrics such as 'with my leather black jeans on' were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented," the statement added.
West was very concerned about what happened especially for the audience who were displeased with muting the lyrics of West's raps during his songs as well as over doing the smoke that nearly covered West and was hardly seen on stage.
"It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against. Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned," the rep continued.
The incident apparently happened since West himself usually does the censoring and this time, he failed to do it so the network had to overcompensate censoring major portions of the artist's rap in the songs 'All Day' and 'Skinhead'.
