Bill Cosby Show News, Rape Allegations Rumors 2014: NBC & Netflix Cancel Comedian's Projects After Janice Dickerson Accusations
In latest Bill Cosby rape allegation news, NBC and Netflix have broken their silence regarding the status of Bill Cosby's proposed comedy projects after several women including former supermodel Janice Dickinson accused 'The Bill Cosby' and 'I Spy' actor/comedian of rape.
"At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special Bill Cosby 77," said a Netflix representative in an announcement.
Bill Cosby is best known for his role as Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, the patriarch of his family on the hit series titled 'The Cosby Show' from 1984 to 1992 on the NBC network.
"We can confirm that the Cosby project is no longer in development," said NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks in a statement in reference to the proposed sitcom which would have marked the long awaited return to television on the same network where he had his greatest success over twenty years ago.
The now-cancelled comedy special was slated to be released on the popular online network later this month on November 28 before the rape allegations linking Cosby as an alleged rapist surfaced.
"We appreciate that NBC and Netflix have taken these allegations seriously and think that they've made the responsible choice by canceling these shows. The coverage of the Bill Cosby story has already led to a significant increase in the number of survivors reaching out for help through the National Sexual Assault Hotline," said Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (aka RAIN) Communications Vice President Katherine Hull in a declaration on November 19.
The cancellation of both Cosby projects came to fruition after 'America's Next Top Model' and 'The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency' star Janice Dickinson accused Cosby of raping her after they both had dinner in 1982.
"The next morning I woke up, and I wasn't wearing my pajamas, and I remember before I passed out that I had been sexually assaulted by this man...Before I woke up in the morning, the last thing I remember was Bill Cosby in a patchwork robe, dropping his robe and getting on top of me. And I remember a lot of pain. The next morning I remember waking up with my pajamas off and there was s***n in between my legs," said Dickinson to Entertainment Tonight.
"I want to talk about this now and I want to really support the other women who have gone through this. Now with people coming out...it's being handled differently... Stuffing feelings of rape and my unresolved issues with this incident has drove me into a life of trying to hurt myself because I didn't have counsel and I was afraid. I was afraid of the consequences. I was afraid of being labeled a whore or a slut and trying to sleep my way to the top of a career that never took place. "
As a result, Cosby's attorney Marty Singer issued the following comment regarding Dickinson's shocking allegations against the legendary comedian:
"Janice Dickinson's story accusing Bill Cosby of rape is a lie. There is a glaring contradiction between what she is claiming now for the first time and what she wrote in her own book and what she told the media back in 2002. Ms. Dickinson did an interview with the New York Observer in September 2002 entitled 'Interview With a Vamp' completely contradicting her new story about Mr. Cosby. That interview a dozen years ago said 'she didn't want to go to bed with him and he blew her off,'" said Singer in a declaration on November 18.
"Her publisher Harper Collins can confirm that no attorney representing Mr. Cosby tried to kill the alleged rape story (since there was no such story) or tried to prevent her from saying whatever she wanted about Bill Cosby in her book. The only story she gave 12 years ago to the media and in her autobiography was that she refused to sleep with Mr. Cosby and he blew her off. Documentary proof and Ms. Dickinson's own words show that her new story about something she now claims happened back in 1982 is a fabricated lie."
