'Big Trouble In Little China' Reboot News: Dwayne Johnson Tapped to Star in Film

There seems to be no time for rest in action star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's schedule with the recent news of his upcoming remake project for 'Big Trouble in Little China.'

Johnson is currently in negotiations to play Jack Burton, the role that Kurt Russel portrayed in the 1986 original.

'X-Men: First Class' scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been tapped to pen the script. A director hasn't yet been announced, and it isn't expected that John Carpenter will return for the reboot.

The original film has been revered as a cult classic despite its shortcomings in its overall box office sales.

"Johnson and his producing partners at Seven Bucks Productions, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, pitched the remake to rights-owner Fox, which released the original film. 'Big Trouble in Little China' is one of Johnson's favorite movies, and Miller and Stentz have already closed a deal to write the script," writes The Wrap.

This role would book Johnson fairly solid for this coming year as he's just been announced to star in a new HBO series titled 'Ballers' and a host of other projects.

"Johnson will soon be seen on HBO's new original series 'Ballers,' which debuts later this month, and is also set to star in Warner Bros.' comic book movie 'Shazam.' Johnson is also lending his voice to Disney's animated movie 'Moana.' He's represented by WME and Gang, Tyre, Ramer and Brown," writes The Wrap.

A release date hasn't yet been announced for the project.
