'Big Little Lies' News: Nicole Kidman & Reese Witherspoon to Co-Star in New TV Series
The latest big news from Hollywood is that Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, two leading ladies of the industry, have agreed to come together in an upcoming television series called 'Big Little Lies', which has been adapted from a novel by the same name penned by Liane Moriarty - an Australian author known for her ability to analyze contemporary life and culture.
A report by Latin Post says that 'Big Little Lies', based on the lives of three women with pre-school age children, will air for a limited period of time. Currently, the producers are on the hunt for a suitable network to air the series, which will be released as soon as it finds a broadcast home.
According to the website, David E. Kelly, reputed television writer who earlier wrote the TV adaptations of 'Ally McBeal' and 'The Practice', will write script. In fact, Pacific Standard, Witherspoon's production company which is credited with popular films such as 'Gone Girl' and 'Wild', is also involved in this project.
Many big name movie stars are increasingly accepting short-term television roles these days. In fact, following this latest trend, 'True Detective' recently announced its cast for Season 2 - which is basically an all-star ensemble cast including Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Taylor Kitsch. Even Matthew McConaughey, who starred in the first season of the series, has acknowledged that his role offered him an opportunity to present something different.
Talking to Business Insider, McConaughey recently said, "Quality. Not only quality that specifically came out of 'True Detective' which was quality of the highest, but I'm talking about quality of television today," adding, "Television is raising the bar on the character-driven drama series. It just is."
According to Latin Post, since many TV shows like 'True Detective' keep renewing their cast every season, actors have a lot of flexibility and don't get stuck up with multiple year contracts.
Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson will be joining Witherspoon and Kidman in a different upcoming limited TV series - an eight-episode period drama based on Edith Wharthon's work and titled 'Custom of the Country'.
