'Better Call Saul' Season 1 Finale News: Bob Odenkirk Talks Jimmy's Final Monologue
In the season finale of Better Call Saul which aired on Monday, Jimmy turns down a job offer at a law firm, making it clear that he is no longer interested in being a good guy.
This is the moment that Breaking Bad fans have been waiting for, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy, discusses the final scene of the episode as well as his expectations for the second season of the show.
In terms of Jimmy's decision at the end of the first season, Odenkirk says that his character will not regret his choice.
He does clarify that he does not know what is going to happen, but discusses that the character's transition from Jimmy to Saul may be perceived as an overcompensation for his desire to please his brother and earn the respect of people who do not give it to him.
He also states that the monologue in the final episode was something that he had to prepare for by running it several times. Fans were elated to experience this monologue, as it solved one of the great mysteries of the series, which was what exactly a Chicago sunroof was.
Odenkirk says, "That was a scene where on my prep days I'd do it 20 times in a row. You want to flow through that thing and I find it to be an involving challenge to attempt to do the work as written, even in a speech that long. Exactly, exactly as written. So in order to do that, you just need to run it like crazy. I just prepped like crazy for that."
He went on to state that he does not have any expectations in terms of season two and that he is surprised each time he picks up the script and sees what choices the characters will make in any given episode.
