Better Call Saul, the long-awaited spinoff of "Breaking Bad" won the TV rating war on Sunday and walked away with record setting cable ratings for AMC.
"Better Call Saul" is the prequel to "Breaking Bad" taking place in 2002 where audiences met "Jimmy" McGill before he becomes Saul. Critics suggest that the real test of "Saul" comes Monday night when it stands alone.
Following the Season 5 winter return of "The Walking Dead," provided the new cable show with a gigantic audience. "The Walking Dead" attracted an audience of 15.6 million total viewers on Sunday night. "Better Call Saul" is a love letter to fans.
Fans of "Breaking Bad" will be delighted by the freshly minted new series that features cameos from favorite "Bad" characters from New Mexico. "Better Call Saul" begins with a black-and-white sequence with Jimmy working as a Cinnabon manager named Gene.
After the initial flash-forward, we return to the present day Saul and viewers quickly realize he's hardly the character we remember from "Breaking Bad."
As we begin following the life and trials of Saul, we realize that instead of a hotshot criminal attorney he's a pathetic lawyer barely making ends meet living in the back room of a nail salon.
The best part for fans will be watching the progression and tagging along for the ride as Jimmy transforms into Saul.
