Benedict Cumberbatch New Baby News: 'Sherlock' Actor & Wife Sophie Hunter Welcome First Son
Benedict Cumberbatch, the 38-year-old star of Sherlock and Oscar nominee, is a new father to a bouncing baby boy.
Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter, announced the great news on June 13. This is the couple's first child.
Cumberbatch's rep confirmed the good news to Hollywood Life. "Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son," the representative confirmed. "We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."
The news of the couple's special arrival comes just months after their wedding, which romantically took place on Valentine's Day.
Cumberbatch and Hunter were joined by a group of their close family and friends, including Martin Freeman.
The couple then announced that they would be expecting their first child in January 2015. Throughout the awards season, the couple appeared together, with Hunter glowing on the red carpet.
The name of their child has not been revealed, though fans of Cumberbatch's popular show, Sherlock, wonder whether he will be paying homage to his television role.
Cumberbatch was recently awarded a CBE. The award is an acknowledgment of his contributions to drama, and is just a step below knighthood.
Cumberbatch has a busy year ahead of him. Besides watch his baby grow, he will be playing Hamlet in the London stage production of the play, beginning August 2015.
He will also be in several films, such as The Yellow Birds, Flying Horse, Doctor Strange and Jungle Book: Origins, though all of these films are still in the production stages.
