'Beetlejuice' Season 2 Cast News: Winona Ryder Confirms Classic Film Sequel

Fans of the '80s cult classic Beetlejuice will be over the moon to hear that a long-awaited sequel has been confirmed.

Members of the original cast of Tim Burton's zany comedy, as well as the director himself, have all separately hinted at the comeback of the most charismatically disgusting ghost on film.

Winona Ryder, who was only 17 when she mooched on-screen as Lydia Deetz, brooding goth teenage daughter, confirmed the news on Monday's Late Night with Seth Meyers. "Um, I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton did this interview - like, it was very hush hush, top secret ... and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah we're doing it and Winona's going to be in it,' and I was like [shocked face]."

Keaton indicated to MTV last year that he was very keen on reprising the off-beatrole.

"I've emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff."

He goes on to say, "I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another."

Burton himself stated in December 2014, "There is a script, and I would love to work with him [Keaton] again. I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever."

Word spread in 2013 of Burton talking to Warner Bros about the project.

A script written by screenwriters Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) and David Katzenberg is already in place.

With three of the shows stars on board, it's just a matter of when, rather than if.

The sequel is long overdue.

The original movie struck the basest parts of our funny bones as we laughed and cringed at the same time as Keaton hammed it up as the creepiest, most disgusting ghost to ever haunt anyone.

Winona was the perfect angsty, better-than-thou teenager, perpetually tortured by how uncool life and her parents were.

As of now, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin will not reprise their roles as the happy couple turned ghosts who misguidedly summoned Beetlejuice to help them rid their house of the Deetz's, the family who bought their house after their demise.

There is no word as to whether Catherine O'Hare and Jeffrey Jones will round out the original Deetz family.
