Bebo Norman Announcing His Retirement from Christian Music
Christian singer/songwriter Bebo Norman has announced his impending retirement at the end of 2013 after seventeen years of being in the music industry.
Bebo has long referred to himself as the "accidental" musician as he was lead away from medical school for a temporary season of music. By doing so, Bebo has had great success in the music industry by receiving the GMA Dove Awards for the best album in 1996, and best song award in 2010, as well as selling over 500,000 albums.
Bebo first started in Christian music by selling albums out of the trunk of his car and singing at local coffeehouses to gain awareness. Bebos most successful album to date is Myself When I am Real which included hit songs "Great Light of the World" and "Falling Down".
Bebo announced his decision to retire on April 4th after much consideration and prayer with his wife, Roshare. "For those closest to me, this really has been a decision that was years in the making, but after a lot of prayer and continued conversation, my wife Roshare and I made the final call back in December," shares Bebo. He continues, "and honestly I wasn't sure if I would be done right away, or what the exact timetable would be, but ultimately I decided that I really wanted to honor my label and publishing commitments through 2013 and tour this new record (Lights of Distant Cities) for at least a year from release just to make sure I "finish well."
Last October, Bebo released his final studio release called Lights of Distant Cities. The media has called this album a "triumph", a "beacon of hope" and a stunning masterpiece. "Everything that I had left in my heart for music, I feel like I squeezed out and emptied into writing and recording this latest project, which I love so dearly. And to have had the chance to write and record such a personal record with my close friend and longtime live collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Gabe Scott, was the perfect way to finish out my recording career" stated Bebo.
In celebrating his end to Christian music, Bebo will be releasing his final radio single on April 19th, "Sing of Your Glory" and will be touring throughout the summer and fall. ?
