‘Baywatch’ Movie Update: Director Seth Gordon in Talks With Paramount for Reboot Film Starring Dwayne Johnson
If latest reports are to be believed, currently Seth Gordon is in talks with Paramount Pictures executives to direct a 'Baywatch' movie featuring Dwayne Johnson. While the plans for the movie are still at a nascent stage, the studio is yet to announce a specific release date.
Quoting a report in Variety, IB Times reports that Paramount Pictures is reported to be seeking a director like Gordon for the movie, primarily owing to his huge success with R-rated comedy projects. It is also being said that the studio is negotiating a deal to bring Gordon onboard the new project. Meanwhile, sources have supposedly confirmed that the upcoming movie will be a comedy.
Earlier, Gordon has directed the 'Horrible Bosses,' which released in 2011, as well as TV shows like 'The Goldbergs' and Marry Me.' According to reports, Paramount is currently negotiating with the director since the demand for R-rated comedies in the market is good now.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that Gordon is in talks to direct 'Baywatch.' According to the report, the project has been in development since 2004. However, it has been held up so long mainly because the studio wants to get the story as well as the tone of the upcoming movie right.
IB Times reports that the upcoming 'Baywatch' movie is based on the popular TV series of the same title that was aired from 1989 to 2001. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Paramount is planning to repeat the success of the '21 Jump Street' movies that were immensely successful in turning a TV series into a movie franchise.
According to reports, the main plot of the 'Baywatch' movie will center on a "by-the-book and very serious lifeguard" to be portrayed by Johnson. The lifeguard will be forced to join hands with "young rule-flouting hotheads" with a view to take on an oil tycoon and save his beach from environmental destruction.
The upcoming 'Baywatch' movie will be produced by Montecito Pictures, while Beau Flynn, who is a producer of Johnson's 'Journey 3,' will also be a part of the upcoming movie. Paramount is said to be planning to begin production of the movie by 2016.
