'Battlebots' New Series News: ABC Network Picks Up Robot Wars for Six Episodes

Fans of the robot versus robot series on Comedy Central will be glad to hear the show will be making its way back onto television screens after nearly thirteen years off the air.

Comedy Central ended the show's contract back in 2002 after five seasons of it being live, but its been announced to be making its way to ABC this time. The network has only ordered six episodes so it isn't certain how long it will stay on the air.

Former Champion Imahara voiced his excitement in an interview with The Nerdist. "I'm excited to see BattleBots returning to TV. It's always been a sport that celebrates engineering and creativity, along with a liberal dose of good, old-fashioned destruction."

ABC will be reviving a lot of the old features of the show while adding some new components.

"Like the original, the new series will feature homemade robots battling against each other in a single elimination tournament style format, until there is one champion. Of course, it will bring the franchise to 2015 with next generation robots - bigger, faster and stronger. The show also will have a greater emphasis on the design and build elements of each robot, the bot builder backstories, their intense pursuit of the championship and the spectacle of the event. There will be cash prizes for winners in the Championship Rounds," writes Deadline.

The show will also be getting rid of weight classes so all robots will be eligible face off against each other. There will also be new 'state of the art' cameras to give viewers a more in depth look at the robot battles.

Many are surprised that ABC would pick up a television show of this nature due to their current female dominant audience, although they have recently expressed their wish to expand to males.

Fans looking to catch some robot fighting action should expect to see new episodes by the summer of 2015.
