'Batman V Superman' News: 'Wonder Woman' Writer Not Impressed With Character's Depiction
The most recent 'Batman V Superman' trailer has all given us a pretty clear idea of how Zack Snyder plans to depict the Wonder Woman character, and while it has been received with fairly positive response from fans, there is one person that is strongly connected to the character that isn't too pleased.
In an interview with the Nerdist, comic book writer Grant Morrison speaks on how this version of the character isn't respective of the original canon.
In speaking about the status of his 'Wonder Woman: Earth One' for DC, he touches on the contrast of the heroine in the latest trailer. He states:
"It's finished now and it'll be coming out soon. I sat down and I thought, "I don't want to do this warrior woman thing." I can understand why they're doing it, I get all that, but that's not what [Wonder Woman creator] William Marston wanted, that's not what he wanted at all! His original concept for Wonder Woman was an answer to comics that he thought were filled with images of blood-curdling masculinity, and you see the latest shots of Gal Gadot in the costume, and it's all sword and shield and her snarling at the camera. Marston's Diana was a doctor, a healer, a scientist. So I went back to those roots and just built it up again."
Gal Gadot, the actress who is to portray the character in 'Batman V Superman' seemed to be very taken with the depiction in as she stated in panel at last week's Comic-Con.
"It was like an out of body experience because there was this little girl from Israel becoming Wonder Woman," she says. "I love the way they made the costume look, and I think it really represents the Wonder Woman of today. I'm very, very grateful to be the one to bring her to life."
