'Batman V Superman' News: Henry Cavill Says Movie Isn't 'Man of Steel' Sequel
Those planning to go into the 'Batman V Superman' movie hoping it will be a 'Man of Steel' sequel may be fairly disappointed.
In a recent interview with EW, Superman actor Henry Cavill assures fans that this won't be a sequel to his prior movie and in fact should be viewed as more of an extension. The movie is largely about Batman and Superman, but since Cavill's character has already been introduced, we can expect the film to largely focus on developing Batman.
"As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel," says Cavill. "It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel."
While it will be expanding the 'Man of Steel' universe, it is also important to not expect the film to act as its spin-off. 'Batman V Superman' wasn't something that was planned to happen during the production of 'Man of Steel,' meaning it will most likely stand alone.
Cavill is however very hopeful for a 'Man of Steel' sequel. There hasn't been a specified date, but the actor believes there's still more to the character to embellish.
"There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels," the actor says. "He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories."
