'Batman V Superman' News: Ben Affleck Wasn't Sure if He Wanted to Play the Superhero

The announcement of Ben Affleck portraying the role as Batman caught a lot of fans by surprise and thanks to a recent interview with EW, its been revealed that the actor was perhaps just as shocked with the proposition.

Throughout the years, we've had a number of actors portray the popular superhero, and while some did a lot better than others, I thinks its safe to assume fans were more than satisfied with the previous actor to don the cape, Christian Bale.

While the actor was hesitant to take on the role at first, he speaks on how the director Zack Snyder swayed his opinion.

"My first reaction was, 'Are you sure?'"‰" Affleck says. "At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like 'This seems like a strange way to get to Batman.' But Zack convinced me."

Affleck stated in a previous interview that this iteration of the character was something not yet presented on screen, as he'll be playing a more aged version of the superhero. This is something that he can relate to as an actor himself.

"He really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively," he says. "So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the aging playboy."

He also states that the decision to play the character would ultimately further his career as a director, as it was recently announced that he'll be directing the character's solo film, 'The Batman.'

"I thought if I was going to direct a movie like this, which I would like to do at some point, I need to have something of a refresher course of how these movies are done," said Affleck.
