'Batman v Superman' Movie Release Date Rumors: No Post-Credits Scenes? Patterned after Christopher Nolan's 'Man of Steel'
Recent movies featuring superheroes have a habit of adding post-credits teasers for viewers, but the 'Dark Knight' trilogy director isn't so enthusiastic about that idea. Moviegoers can remember that producer Christopher Nolan vetoed adding a comedic coda to a serious movie like 'Man of Steel'.
During the filming of Man of Steel', the Warner Bros. Studio asked Director Zack Snyder if he wanted to add a post-credits scene with a touch of humor just like Marvel does. Nolan was the producer and co-writer for the Superman reboot's story and when he heard the conversation, he refused the idea saying, "a real movie wouldn't do that."
However, Nolan denied saying the original quote. He said he would never say someone else's film isn't a "real film." He also added that the quote was inaccurate.
He clarified that the reason for rejecting the idea of a post-credits scene involved sticking to the theme. 'Man of Steel' was shot in a dark, serious tone and following Marvel's comedic tactics just wasn't part of their plan.
According to Nolan, his original statement to Snyder upon the post-credits scene request went something along these lines: "We shouldn't be chasing other movies, but stay true to the tone of 'Man of Steel'."
On the other hand, fans are wondering if Snyder's 2016 film film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will include a post-credits scene now that Nolan is "no longer involved in Warner Bros.' superhero slate beyond an executive producer credit."
Marvel Studios started the idea of adding mid/post-credits scenes to tease viewers about what they can expect in the next flick or to simply add amusement to the film. The concept was recently adapted by non-Marvel movies as well, such as 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'X-Men: Days of the Future Past'.
On a side note, the 2011 'Green Lantern' film, which was distributed by Warner Bros., also added a teaser after the credits.
'Man of Steel' presented the origin story of the DC comics character, Superman. The intended sequel 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will be due out on March 25, 2016.
