'Batman: The Killing Joke' News: Mark Hamill Confirmed to Voice Joker
During San Diego's Comic-Con weekend, it was announce by DC Animation that the studio would be adapting the infamous comic book story 'Batman: The Killing Joke' for their next project.
The comic has been hailed one of the Joker's most darkest stories ever, and fans seemed to collectively only had one man in mind to voice the iconic villain. This was Mark Hamill, the voice actor who took to the Joker in the 'Batman: Animated Series.'
While Hamill hinted that he was in contention for the role, it has now finally been confirmed that he will in fact be portraying the character the only way he can.
"This is fantastic news. For me, Hamill's portrayal of the Joker is on par with Heath Ledger in terms of tapping into what makes the character so horrific and charismatic. And like Ledger, Hamill is unrecognizable in the voice. He plays it so melodiously and knows how to wrap the character's words in whimsy and in menace. It's only fitting that he should be the one to help tell one of the Joker's most famous tales," writes Collider.
Here's the synopsis of the comic:
"According to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as The Joker, that's all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he's out to prove his deranged point. And he's going to use Gotham City's top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it.
"Now Batman must race to stop his archnemesis before his reign of terror claims two of the Dark Knight's closest friends. Can he finally put an end to the cycle of bloodlust and lunacy that links these two iconic foes before it leads to its fatal conclusion? And as the horrifying origin of the Clown Prince of Crime is finally revealed, will the thin line that separates Batman's nobility and The Joker's insanity snap once and for all?"
