'Bates Motel' Season 5 Spoilers: Next Season Is Norma-Centric; Includes A Horror Movie Victim, Norma’s Brother
Norma is set to be the focus of "Bates Motel" season 5. In addition, the series' upcoming season is set to feature an iconic horror film victim, as well as Norma's brother.
"Bates Hotel" executive producers Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse revealed that while Norma died in the show's previous season, she is going to be undead in Norman's mind. In their interview with TV Line, Cuse said that Norma was now existing in Norman's brain.
Cuse added that while fans did not really know anything about the character in the original "Psycho," it was known that she was a corpse and woman who had berated her son into becoming crazy. For the executive producer, their dynamics was a complex, intense, and co-dependent love story.
In other news, "Bates Motel" season 5 is set to see the return of the iconic movie victim Marion Crane, Deadline has learned. In an interview with the publication, Cuse said that he did not think the writers necessarily saw the show ending with Crane pulling up to the house, suggesting Norman's arrival.
For Cuse, there was an openness as they got towards the next season of moving "Psycho's" past events, along with a storytelling fluidity. Also, he revealed that history would be very kind to "Bates Motel."
Along with Norma's existence despite her death and Crane's appearance in the show, several other characters are set to return, which include Norma's brother Caleb, as per Movie News Guide. His impact on Norman's mental state is yet to be revealed.
"Bates Motel" season 5 is assumed to air in 2017 on A&E.
