"Bates Motel" season 4, episode 7 follows Norman as he learns about Norma's marriage with Romero and asks for his release from the mental facility.

In the previous episodes, it seemed that everything was going just fine in the lives of Norman and Norma. Norman's therapy sessions were making progress, and Norma's romantic connection with Romero was undeniably note-perfect.

In episode 7 titled "There's No Place Like Home," however, things go a bit off course.

While doing some arts and crafts at Pineview, Norman stumbles upon a newspaper and is surprised to see a photo of his mother Norma, together with Alex Romero. Taking it from the caption, he learns that the two have already tied the knot.

Considering how traumatic his therapy sessions with Dr. Edwards have been, Norman decides to leave the mental institution and come home. When he meets with Norma, he confronts her about the news about her marriage with Romero but Norma assures him that he only tied the knot for the show. When he tells her about his decision to move out of Pineview, she initially asks him to reconsider but ultimately gives in.

Normal talks to Dr. Edwards and explains to him that it is better for him to sleep in his bed at home and in the presence of his mother. He also promises to continue his medication and visit him from time to time. Though half-hearted, Dr. Edwards agrees to release him.
