'Bastard Executioner' News: Ed Sheeran Joins Cast As Reoccurring Character

Kurt Sutter's upcoming medieval drama has recently enlisted the help of Grammy-nominee singer Ed Sheeran for a reoccurring role.

Sutter is most notable for his production of the FX series 'Sons of Anarchy,' from which he's recruited a lot of talent from.

'Bastard Executioner' is set in the 14th century and will be shot in Sheeran's home counter, the U.K.. He'll be set to play Sir Comac, describe to be "an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder."

"This marks a reunion for Sheeran, who declared himself a Sons of Anarchy fan during the biker drama's final season, and Sutter, the series' creator. The tweets led to a collaboration, with Sheeran recording a version of his bluesy cover of Foy Vance's "Make It Rain" for the penultimate episode. More recently, Sheeran popped up in another Hollywood production, a live, springtime episode of NBC's Undateable, and plans to air his special, Ed Sheeran: Live at Wembley Stadium, on the same network later this summer," writes THR.

While this won't be the first time Sutter works with FX, it will be the first historical project that he works on with the network.

"I love history. I love theology. I love blood," he tells THR. "It's been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast - Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer Lee Jones - this world explodes on screen," said Sutter, adding: "I love working with FX and Fox21TVS. They've been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities."

'Bastard Executioner' plans to premiere October.
