Barcelona Transfer News January 2015: Two Defenders Set to Leave Team in January
After FIFA prevented Barcelona from signing a new defender intended to replace the perennially injured Thomas Vermaelen, for reasons involving "exceptional situations," it seems as though two other defenders are set to leave the team on January, during the transfer window.
Although Barcelona asked FIFA to allow them to sign new defenders to replace Vermaelen, the association declined and said on Monday that its disciplinary committee will not allow the signing of players "outside the official periods of registration."
Because of the prohibition, the team is lacking one strong defender. However, despite reports that the FC Barcelona cannot play in its full capacity this season, report said that the team is willing to let two young full-backs leave the club in the mid season transfer window.
Full-back Martin Montoya is reportedly set to a move to Juventus, which kills Arsenal and Liverpool hopes of signing the 23-year-old defender.
According to Montoya's agent, Juan De Dios Carrasco, his client wanted to leave Camp Nou this winter after playing just once for Barca this season.
Carrasco told Express that Montoya "wants to play but does not want to stay at Barcelona. The coach decides who plays, but if Martin does not play, then he wants to leave."
"He will leave the club in January, there are clubs interested. In England, Italy and Germany," he added.
Meanwhile, there are also other reports that another full-back will be leaving FC Barcelona on a loan deal.
Everton is negotiating a bid to sign Barcelona defender Douglas Pereira to Merseyside in the January transfer window.
Having made just one La Liga appearance, Douglas is also reportedly having difficulties in nailing down a spot in the starting XI.
According to reports in Spain, the 24-year-old Brazilian defender has started talks with Toffees boss Roberto Martinez for the loan deal, in an attempt to strengthen the Blues' injury-hit defence this season.
However, the Bleacher Report stated that the move will ultimately depend on Montoya's condition, because without Montoya and the two fullbacks in the field, no one will cover for right-back Dani Alves
