'Back To The Future' Reboot News: Director Jokes He'll Have to Die Before it Happens
For those that hoped to one day see a 'Back To The Future' remake may be disappointed to hear that they may never happen, or if it did it would most likely be far in future.
Original director Robert Zemeckis voiced his displeasure with the idea in a recent interview with The Telegraph, stating that he would have to be dead for that to ever become reality. As many fans would agree, the director believes his movie to be an untouchable classic, and that a remake would just be an injustice to its legacy.
"Oh, God no," Zemeckis states. "That can't happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I'm sure they'll do it, unless there's a way our estates can stop it. I mean, to me, that's outrageous. Especially since it's a good movie. It's like saying 'Let's remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?' What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?"
Hollywood's fascination with reboots may know no bounds if someone did intend to remake 'Back To The Future.' Zemeckis' contract with Universal has solemnly stated that he and co-writer Bob Gale have the final say on anything produced from the film, and while a remake is out of the question, the two do have plans to extend the franchise.
"Instead, Gale and Zemeckis are working on a "Back to the Future" musical. The two originally planned to open the musical on London's West End in 2015 to celebrate the film's upcoming 30th anniversary, but last October, Gale announced it wasn't quite ready," writes Huffington Post.
"We're not going to put it out there until we absolutely love it ourselves," he told Yahoo.
