Avril Lavigne Lyme Disease News: Singer Talks about her Struggle with Sickness

It had been months since Avril Lavigne showed up on the music scene with her punky pop-rock music, and while she had been quiet, fans on Twitter started to wonder about some rumored "health issues". On that note, and recently, Lavigne talked People magazine about her struggle with Lyme Disease.

According to the pop rock sensation, she had been bedridden for five months due to a severe case of Lyme disease. At first, doctors were unable to understand her condition. She suspected that she was bitten by a tick in the 2014 during her birthday trip in Las Vegas. She told People that she felt like "dying".

When the disease had struck her, it had been a normal day when she suddenly felt ill, "I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she said, "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."

Lyme disease presents fatigue and flu-like symptoms to those bitten by deer ticks. Other common signs include a bulls-eye rash on the bite site. Treatment of the disease includes antibiotic regimens that fit according to the victim's tolerance.

While she was recuperating, she had a difficult time doing normal things. "I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk, and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," she said adding, "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand."

Lavigne has been getting rehabilitation and care in her Ontario home. Husband and lead singer for the band Nickelback, Chad Kroeger, has been with her through the disease together with her mom. Fortunately, she claims that she now feels 80% better.

Avril Lavigne is set to release her new single 'Fly' during the 2015 Special Olympics in LA in the Summer.
