Why Was Loki Not in Avengers Age of Ultron Movie? Director Joss Whedon Answers
The highly anticipated 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' has finally made its way to the states for release this past weekend and has already become a critical success.
The film delivered on all fronts with a slew of new characters, villains, and development from both. It also really set things up for the MCU in a very good way. 'Age of Ultron' just marked the beginning of a load more to come.
While all the characters did great on screen, it seemed a certain fan favorite was missing from the cast in the movie, more namely Loki, one of the main anti-heroes of the first film.
This came as a shock because not only does Loki's character always bodes well on screen, but it was promised to us by a certain actor.
Idris Elba claimed that we would all see Tom Hiddleston reprise his role as Loki in 'Age of Ultron' in an interview.
It has now become apparent that Hiddleston was slated to be in the film, although he had to be cut at the last minute. Director Joss Whedon took on an interview with MTV to clear the air on this. He states:
"Tom is not in the movie... Idris misspoke... twice. We did shoot something and it didn't play. The movie has so much, is so filled and we didn't want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it but I understood the decision, 'Now there are too many voices in the chorus.' At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing."
Whedon did make a good point on the amount of characters. He's already commented on the challenge it was to do the first 'Avengers' movie. The director fortunately didn't fail to top himself in his latest movie.
For those that may not know, 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is currently in theaters now.
