'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Spoilers: 'Iron Man 2' & MCU Film Deleted Scene Leaves Hints Upcoming Plot Elements?

With just a little over a month before the epic on screen battles brought by "Avengers: Age of Ultron" comes out, hardcore fans are already speculating about the direction Marvel Studio's Cinematic Universe will take.

A new theory has emerged from a skipped scene in an MCU film that was received as lukewarm, to say the least, with a few scenes from "Iron Man 2" now being tied with what could have been the birth of a potentially critical weapon in the future installments of the massive franchise.

As cited by Cinema Blend, a speculative piece by Movie Pilot, suggests that Tony Stark's probing of his father's research in the 2010 movie "Iron Man 2" may lead to a critical role in the future of the MCU.

The gist of the theory is this: the younger Stark used Howard Stark's research to concoct an element with the same "magical cosmic quintessence that powers The Tesseract," one of the infinity stones.

In "Iron Man 2," while looking desperately for an alternative power source for his Arc reactor to counter his palladium radiation poisoning, Stark deciphers clues left behind by his father. By solving the puzzle through figuring out the clues left in a film, architectural renderings, and journals, he comes up with a mystery element that powers his life-saving device, while also combating the radiation poisoning.

The Movie Pilot piece suggests that the mystery element could end up being the continuity's first appearance in the larger cosmic world.

Cinema Blend notes where the theory gets interesting, citing a scene in "The Avengers" where Loki attempts to use his scepter against Tony, pointing it at his heart. The magic wand curiously didn't work, giving rise to the speculation that since Loki's scepter is assumed to have an infinity stone, the spell may have failed because its power was matched by what Tony had in his chest, a related infinity stone.

If the theory proves to be unto something, "Iron Man 2" could have set into motion the events that might be a significant part of the "Avengers: Infinity War" films.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 1.
