'Avengers: Age of Ultron' News: Movie Dominates International Box Office
The verdict is apparently out on 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' from its recent box office takeover overseas. The movie was released almost a week early to foreign countries to extend the studio's return in international profit.
"The importance of international box office can't be understated. Now that the DVD market has dried up, studios depend even more heavily on international box office gross, and while everyone will be seeing if Age of Ultron can crack the first movie's opening weekend record for the U.S., the real money from a box office perspective goes far beyond our shores. Of course, merchandise is where the real money is made, and this movie will sell no shortage of toys no matter what," writes Collider.
It has been reported that 'Age of Ultron' has collected $201.2 million after opening in countries including France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Korea and Australia.
While this is impressive, the U.S.'s opening weekend plans to not only crush the box office, but break its own records. The first 'Avengers' film now stands as one of the highest grossing films ever, but the hype for its sequel anticipates to be even bigger. The current number one spot belongs to 'Furious 7' at the moment.
'Age of Ultron' premieres in the "United States on May 1st.
