'Avengers: Age of Ultron' News: Director Joss Whedon Talks New Characters in Upcoming Movie
Directors such as Joss Whedon are highly respected not only for their aptitude in putting together huge superhero team-up features, but because they're so vocal and personable toward fans.
The 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' director sits down with THR to discuss some of the new characters in his sequel, such as The Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. He speaks on their vitalness to the film and how they help usher in the new phase that Marvel movies are heading towards.
"It was really important for me to have people who would change the game, emotionally and stylistically," states Whedon, "Their powers are completely different [from the existing Avengers'] and, through them, we get to see things differently. When we're at speed with him, we're going fast, we're going slow; it's not like we're trying to do some enormous slow-guy set piece, it's just something we never had license to do in the first movie. I never want to get so stylistically arch that you're pulled out of what you're seeing, but at the same time, I wanted to shoot something that was some kind of poetic and strange."
The real groundbreaking part of this interview is when the director states that there will indeed be more characters in the film that haven't yet been featured in the trailers or photos. This surprise is almost too difficult to believe as the film is already jam-packed with new and returning characters from the first movie.
Many new actors have been casted into Marvel roles during and after the production of the movie, so this might be referring to teasers of some of those. Characters such as the Black Panther have already been confirmed for 'Captain America: Civil War' for next year.
'Avengers: Age of Ultron' will be released May 1.
