'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Cast News: Jeremy Renner & Chris Evans Apologize for Comments Against Black Widow Character
After social media users were outraged towards 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' actors Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans for something they said, the two actors apologized for the unintentional offensive comments they made towards Scarlett Johansson's character in the film.
In an interview with Digital Spy, the two male actors, Renner and Evans were a little careless in the choice of words when asked about Johansson's character, the Black Widow and her possible relationship with their characters that is, the Hawk eye and Captain America, the two responded in a way that gained a lot of social media traffic.
After a while, the two apologized for offending anyone including the fans of the film. "Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America," Evans said in the statement, "We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize," he added.
Meanwhile Renner also apologized in a statement saying "I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone," he said adding, "It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."
In the criticized interview, Renner and Evans were having a bit of fun goofing around and poking jokes about the film and when asked about the Black Widow, the two said, "She's [promiscuous]," said Renner while Evans added saying, "I was going to say something along that line...A complete [expletive]." And finally Renner said, "She has a prosthetic leg anyway."
The comments outraged several individuals stating that those were misogynistic and disrespectful to both women and those with disability. "It's sad but I really didn't expect them to respect women, but to make fun of someone with a disability.... that's just wrong, no matter if it was a joke.... It's a really mean thing to do that those people most likely have to deal with on a daily bases so is it really necessary to have to hear it from someone they might admire?" one commenter wrote via social media.
