'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' Movie Cast News, Spoilers: Robert Downey Jr. Talks 'Captain America 3: Civil War' Rumors

In latest Marvel Cinematic Universe news, Robert Downey Jr. addressed the rumors surrounding his popular Iron Man character in the upcoming films 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and 'Captain America 3: Civil War'.

"Age of Ultron feels like a beginning and an ending," said Downey Jr to Empire magazine in a recent interview.

The 49-year-old New York City native hinted that the upcoming third Captain America film may feature Iron Man battling his former ally and 'First Avenger' Captain America due to their opposing views during the Civil War storyline that originally debut in the comic books from 2006 to 2007.

"The idea of Tony being able to march into Washington and say, 'I'll sign up', wouldn't have made sense if the political climate in the real world hadn't shifted the way it has," said Downey.

"There's always the bigger overarching question, that Joss brings up all the time - it's kind of weird that these guys would have all these throw downs all over planet Earth and it looked like a little collateral damage happened over there, and yet when the movie's over, it's like nobody minds. You have to figure, 'Were you to ask the question, what would the American government do if this were real? Wouldn't it be interesting to see Tony doing something you wouldn't imagine?'"

As a result, through Captain America's perspective Iron Man would be viewed as a traitor and a villain in the 'Captain America 3: Civil War' film, which may also be the legendary actor's final appearance in a Marvel Studios film.

"I also recognize that I'll be turning 50 by the time I promote this movie," said Downey Jr.

"The clock is ticking down on the amount of memories and participation that I would allow myself and not embarrass the medium with."

Downey will return as Iron Man to lead the all-star roster against Ultron. Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) are among the numerous actors set to reprise their role when 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' returns to the big screen on May 1, 2015.

The 'Captain America 3: Civil War' film will arrive in movie theaters on May 6, 2016.
