'Avatar 2' Release Date, News, Plot: Sequel Pushed Back To 2018; Expanded To Four Sequels?
While the premiere of "Avatar 2" has been pushed back to 2018, there is still good news for fans. The sequels of the highest-grossing film "Avatar" have been expanded to not just three, but four.
The news was confirmed by director James Cameron himself, who made the official announcement at the recent CinemaCon that four additional sequels will follow his box office film.
The director initially planned to have two sequels for the film, but he decided to expand the sequels into four after meeting four screenwriters, artists and designers and realizing that two sequels will not be enough given the breadth of their concepts.
"So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film. We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga," said Cameron.
According to him, only a few people have caught a glimpse of the initial concept, and all of them were amazed with what they saw.
He also confirmed that each sequel will feature a story that is independent from the other sequels, and that it is going to be an epic saga altogether.
A report on Parent Herald says that "Avatar 2" will premiere in 2018, and the reason for its delay is that Cameron wants to give way to "Star Wars: Episode 8," which is set for release in 2017. The remaining three sequels of "Avatar" will premiere in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
"Avatar 2" will explore the complex world underwater and will utilize Cameron's new film technology under water.
