'Avatar 2' Release Date Delay News: Director James Cameron Says Writer's Block to Blame
New reports are claiming that James Cameron went ahead and admitted that "Avatar 2" was delayed due to the challenge of writing its script.
In an interview with press people from Wellington, New Zealand where "Avatar 2" will be filmed, Cameron discussed the challenges of creating the sequel. The director said that unlike stand-alone films, trilogy stories should flow well into the three movies and thus this makes the task complicated.
Cameron added that the production team is writing the three scripts all at once in order to ensure the good flow of the storyline rather than making up a story one after another. In addition, they are simultaneously creating the characters and designing the environment, which entails a lot of time and hard work.
Spoilers revealed that there will be a lot of underwater scenes that features "indigenous ocean cultures." The films will be released one year after another.
The first "Avatar" film in 2009 was the highest-grossing movie of all time with total box office sales of $2.782 billion worldwide. Other than that, the movie won three Academy Awards.
The film's setting is in 22nd century located on a far away planet called Pandora with humanoid race. Cameron said it took him six years to write the first "Avatar" film.
Reports also say that "Avatar's" delay may not be good for the franchise since the lead actor Sam Worthington has not maintained the stardom he had five years ago. The lead actress Zoe Saldana has played Gamora in another top-grosser film "Guardians of the Galaxy." Saldana will most probably star in future sequels of the hit Marvel movie.
Other than that, "Avatar" would have to compete with Marvel films during its release or "Star Wars: Epsiode VIII." It may also have to face comic book adaptations such as "Black Panther" and "Justice League."
Cameron's film has a long way to go since "Avatar 2" is slated for a 2017 release.
