'Avatar 2' New Release Date News: Director James Cameron Says Film Premieres in December 2017

James Cameroon, in an interview with The Associated Press said that he has pushed back the production of the sequel to the award winning movie 'Avatar', which now, won't be released until December, 2017.

The director, speaking at an event held by New Zealand Screen Advisory Board, said that he is working on the scripts and production of three new films simultaneously. "We were probably a bit ambitious with [the film]," says Cameron, "It took me six months to write the first and we're writing three altogether," according to 3News.

Working on the scripts of these sequels are Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno along with Cameroon.

Cameroon has also announced that he will be shooting the sequels in New Zealand, where the original movie was shot as well. He said that a core team has been developing new software for the sequels. He added, "It's going to be a lot of new imagery and a lot of new environments and creatures across Pandora. We're blowing it out all over the place. At first I thought I was going to take it onto other worlds as well, in the same solar system, but it turned out not to be necessary," according to The Associated Press.

Speaking on the state of affairs of the world and its deplorable condition, he said "There's nothing I need to say as an artist about the state of the world and human affairs that I can't do through the lens of the "Avatar' universe," according to Variety Magazine.

While the release dates have been announced, the audience is more eager to know who is on the cast. Cameroon seems keen on returning the original cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver to the sequels as well.

'Avatar' remains the biggest box office in history with a gross collection of $2.8 billion, when it released in 2009, according to Box Office Mojo.
