Atlanta Hawks NBA 2015 News: Mike Scott Out for 4-6 Weeks, Franchise Signs Austin Daye

The Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks suffered a setback, losing forward Mike Scott to a fractured left big toe. According to Yahoo Sports, the key bench player is expected to miss between four to six weeks.

A second round pick out of Virginia in 2013, Scott has become a dependable cog coming off the bench, averaging 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Hawks. With just 17 games left in the regular season, his timetable for a return would be into the start of the playoffs in mid April.

To fill the void left by Scott's injury, the Hawks signed NBA journeyman Austin Daye to a 10-day contract as announced by Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer on Sunday.

The 27-year-old was waived in January by the San Antonio Spurs, and was playing with Erie of the NBA Development League before getting the call up.

Daye averaged 4 points and 2.3 rebounds for the Spurs in 26 games this season (four starts) before being released.

The 15th overall pick in the 2009 Draft has had stints with the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, and Spurs. In over 285 career games, Daye has averages of 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Scott suffered the injury during the Hawks game Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets. After initially being thought to be a sprain, an MRI Friday in Phoenix revealed the true extent of the injury.

According to an Associated Press report, he is scheduled to visit a specialist Monday in Atlanta to decide on a treatment plan, which will come with a subsequent timetable for his recovery.

The NBA Playoffs will commence in five weeks, and the Hawks have maintained their hold as one of the favorites to win the East with a 51-14 record, 10 games ahead of the second place Cleveland Cavaliers, and tied with the Golden State Warriors for the overall league lead.
