Atlanta Hawks NBA 2015 News: DeMarre Carroll Has No Structural Damage to Knee, Game 2 Live Stream Free
The Atlanta Hawks lost the series opener, and home court advantage in their Game 1 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, but it was the scary looking non-contact knee injury to starting forward DeMarre Carroll that had the Hawks fearing the worst.
They got some good news Thursday as it reports surfaced that there was no structural damage to Carroll's knee following an MRI, and is now listed as day-to-day.
The Hawks' best perimeter defender was later diagnosed with a hyperextension of the left knee, with no structural or ligament damage, suffering instead, a bone bruise.
Carroll injured his knee attempting a Euro-step with just five minutes left in the fourth quarter of Game 1. He was helped off the court, and left the arena in crutches after being unable to put weight on the injured leg.
The 29-year-old has been a huge part of the Hawks' success this season. He averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, while shooting just under 40 percent from three in the regular season. He improved on those numbers in the postseason averaging 16.2 points, and 6.4 rebounds, while shooting 42.6 percent from deep.
"THANK YOU GOD!!!" was his caption to an Instagram post following the diagnosis of his knee.
But apart from being a key contributor to the Hawks offense, and being the primary defender on LeBron James, Carroll has bigger things to be thankful for that his injury isn't as serious as previously thought. He will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, and his production this year, and especially in the playoffs will make him a hot commodity for teams looking for players who can both defend well and hit the three.
The Cavs take on the Hawks for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday, May 22. Tip-off is set at 8:30 p.m. ET. Tou can catch the action via live stream here.
