Asus Chromebit News: Asus Unveils Google Chrome OS for Less than $100

Taiwanese multinational computer hardware and electronics company, Asus, is working on a new PC-on-a-stick version dubbed Asus Chromebit that will have a new Chrome operating system and is among the many new chrome OS devices currently highlighted by Google.

CNET reports that the appearance of the Chromebit is similar to a large USB thumb drive that connects through HDMI to a monitor or TV, allowing the user an instant access to Chrome OS as well as all its features. This simplified, all the time on operating system is basically a Chrome Web browser, improved by some vital OS file functions.

However, this is certainly not the first stick PC in the market. Ealier this year, tech enthusiasts saw the Intel Compute Stick at CES 2015. This stick PC will run Windows 10 along with an Intel Atom CPU. Similarly, the Raspberry Pi also is virtually a stick-like mini computer that can run on Windows as well as Linux.

All the devices mentioned here are meant to be inexpensive means to add computing proficiency to any monitor or TV. Interestingly, these stick computers also have the potential of being used as a home theater PC, thereby streaming online content to a big screen whilst remaining out of view.

Meanwhile the Asus Chromebit comes with a Rockchip 3288 processor together with 2GB of RAM and 16GB for storage. In addition, it has a full-size USB 2.0 port for connecting accessories.

Asus Chromebit also boasts Web browsing ability and can use any cloud-based service, website or app. The device connects to the internet via Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Asus will make the device available for public this summer and it will come for less than $100.
