'Assassin's Creed' Movie News: Film Shares Universe of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Games
Recently, the first official image of Michael Fassbender in costume for the upcoming 'Assassin's Creed' movie was revealed by Yahoo! News. In the movie, Fassbender portrays the character of Callum in contemporary times as well as his 15th century Spanish ancestor Aguilar. According to a latest report, despite being new, Callum as well as the events in the film take place in the same universe as that of 'Assassin's Creed' games and books.
Christian Today reports that the head of content for all 'Assassin's Creed' properties, Aymar Azaizia, recently had a chatted with fans via Twitter. During his chat, Azaizia revealed many spoilers about the upcoming film's plot and setting. In response to a question, he revealed that the film is set in the same world that the gamers are familiar with.
In one of the posts, Azaizia explained, "We share the same universe. Elements in the film have consequences as in our games, comics, and books," adding, "It's a brand new story, with new characters set in our universe. It's possible you may find some familiar faces."
Azaizia further explained that Callum is not like Desmond, Clay and the other main characters that fans have already seen in the franchise. He added that as in the games, the film will not be completely set in 15th-century Spain, because the modern-day setting will also be very significant.
In fact, 'Assassin's Creed' will continue follow the same procedure. Nevertheless, Callum will enter a device called the Animus, which will let him relive the memories related to his ancestor Aguilar. This will help him as well as his allies discover clues in finding ancient weapons and new secrets, enabling them to defeat the ancient order of the Knights Templar.
Azaizia also shared that familiar faces may be seen in the upcoming film. As the events in the movie takes place in the 15th century, it is very likely that fans may see Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the main character in the game 'Assassin's Creed II,' which is set in France at around the same time period.
'Assassin's Creed' is set for release on Dec. 21, 2016.
