'Assassin's Creed' Movie Cast News: 'Two Days, One Night' Star Marion Cotillard Joins Michael Fassbender

Recent news has confirmed that Marion Cotillard will star opposite of Michael Fassbender in Ubisoft's upcoming 'Assassin's Creed' movie.

Marion Cotillard has signed on as a lead role in the movie making this a reunion for the two actors, as her and Fassbender starred alongside each other in 'Macbeth', under the same director, Justin Kurzel.

"They're keeping under wraps the role that Cotillard plays, but she's a versatile actress who won the Oscar for La Vie En Rose, and also played an action role in The Dark Knight Rises. Like Fassbender, her role is meant to span multiple films if this one scores and becomes a franchise. New Regency and Ubisoft has married pedigree elements to a big-selling video game, a formula that has served Marvel well in building its franchises. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed video game has sold over 91 million units," writes Deadline.

It's difficult to speculate what role they could have casted Cotillard for, her acting has stretched from action to drama, in which she's done excellent blends of both in movies such as 'Inception'.

Female characters in the franchise could include, Rebecca Crane, a tech genius, Lucy Stillman, or perhaps even a female assassin.

As the studio hasn't yet released a synopsis or logline on the movie, it's impossible to determine what game they'll attempt to base the movie off of if any.

"The video game series encompasses nine different games that have reportedly sold a combined 91 million units. It follows the travails of a bartender who is kidnapped by a secret organization with ties to the Knights Templar and must travel back through time to relive the memories of his ancestors-all of whom happened to be highly trained professional killers-and retrieve historical artifacts," writes EW.

The movie has a confirmed release date of December 21st, 2016.
