Arizona Coyotes NHL 2015 Trade News: Antoine Vermette Traded to Blackhawks, Keith Yandle to Rangers

Over the past few days, the struggling Arizona Coyotes traded away its top two scorers"”Antoine Vermette to the Chicago Blackhawks, and Keith Yandle to the New York Rangers. While some might consider that a sign of a rebuild, Coyotes GM Don Maloney calls it a "reset," as Yahoo Sports reports.

"It fast-tracks us to respectability. The one benefit of having such a miserable season is that there's a pretty big reward being a bad team this season, at the top of the draft. We know that," said Maloney who got two first round draft picks, a top-shelf defensive prospect in Klas Dahlbeck, as well as potential offensive specialist Anthony Duclair for his two top-scorers.

The Yahoo Sports report points out that the next NFL Draft will be featuring two can't-miss prospects in Connor McDavid, and Jack Eichel.

Apart from potentially getting a blue-chip rookie, the Coyotes have developing star Oliver Ekman-Larsson, as well as a few young players that could be vital cogs for the team in the next couple of years.

"Our fans have hung in with us through thick and thin. We're going to need for them to hang with us a little longer," Maloney said.

Maloney initiated the deals, making known his interest in the Rangers' assets. After a week of discussions, Rangers GM Glen Sather phoned in over the weekend to ask for Yandle, and added Duclair to the package"”Domi's linemate in the world juniors.

The deal that was finalized was Yandle and defenseman Chris Summers, along with a fourth-round pick in 2016 to the Rangers for John Moore, Duclair, a lottery-protected first round pick in 2016, and a second round pick in 2015.

The Coyotes also agreed to retain half of Yandle's salary for this season, as well as the next as part of the deal.

"Where we're going in the reset, it's hard to find top young skilled players. You have to give to get," Maloney said.
