'Aquaman' Movie News, Release Date: Director James Wan Plans To Make The King Of Atlantis 'Badass?'
"Aquaman" director James Wan reveals his plan on making the superhero from the big 'ol blue as "badass" as they can. Their ultimate goal is to turn the character into someone highly likeable and respected by the audience.
Wan, who is known for directing the highly-acclaimed films like "The Conjuring" and "Furious 7" revealed their plans on MTV News. "As we all know, Aquaman is somewhat the butt of the joke in the superhero world," as he began his statement.
"There's something cool about that. I love the idea of being the underdog, coming in with a take on this underdog character and completely blow people's expectations away. Like, 'Oh, you thought he was going to be a wimpy character? No no no.' It's going to be so cool," he added further.
He also said that he saw a great potential in the character. "But in a lot of ways... it's a continuation but there are origin elements as well - and that's the story that I'm excited to tell," as he concluded.
As Cinema Blend noted, Warner Bros. is investing a lot in the much-awaited film by choosing Wan as the director and "Game of Thrones" badass Jason Momoa as King of Atlantis. Otherwise, viewers might see the "Superfriends" version of "Aquaman" who is riding on dolphins like a jet ski.
Notably, DC has been trying to change the people's perception of "Aquaman" by making his looks more edgy and manly. Hence, Momoa's appearance on the film is expected to be fierce and full of strength.
"Aquaman" kicks off in theaters on July 27, 2018.
