Apple Watch 2 Release Date, Rumors: GPS And Barometer? But Where Is Cellular Link?

The rumors about the Apple Watch 2 have intensified considering that it's release date is just around the corner.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, the resident expert on anything Apple-related, listed the new additions to the Apple Watch 2 when it's unveiled in the second half of this year. According to his research notes, as shared by Mac Rumors, the device would have a GPS, barometer, waterproofing-capability, better battery and faster processor.

However, there's not much change on the design front as it will feature the same screen dimensions and overall thickness of the current smart watch. But it will switch to LED in order to improve battery life.

One thing that might hurt the Apple Watch 2 is the lack of news and rumors on cellular connectivity. Koi had shared that it might not be until 2017 when fans will see some upgrades on that regard.

Despite all the upgrades to the second-generation smart watch, the absence of cellular connection might hurt its overall sales, The Motley Fool's Chris Neiger wrote.

Without cell connection, the Apple Watch 2 will still be heavily reliant on the iPhone. That's bad news for some people who'll just wait for the next update next year. While Apple is still dominating the smart watch industry in terms of sales, with Samsung about a million behind in terms of shipped units. However, its foothold is slipping as it suffered about 55% decrease in sales.

The next question, therefore, is whether the news shared by Koi about the new upgrades would be enough for people to patronize the Apple Watch 2?
