Apple Watch 2 Release Date, Price Rumors: Second-Gen Smartwatch Coming In September?
The latest update for Apple's Watch 2 includes its release date and specifications like GPS and cellular accessibility.
The Apple Watch 2 is rumored to be released in September, Digitimes has learned. As per the the publication's sources, the forthcoming wearable is set to launch together with the forthcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The sources added that a rise on the supple-chain of Apple's Watch chips and components have been seen recently, which led to speculations of a September release. Moreover, a September release is assumed as logical, since Apple usually launches its new products in the said month.
According to reports, the waiting time for the Watch 2 is set to shorten and the device is set to arrive in mid to late 2016. The speculation is based on the price decline of the first Apple Watch, which was around $100 in February.
Whether the Apple Watch 2 can redeem the reduced sales of the original Apple Watch remains to be unknown; though, some might be looking forward that Apple's second-generation smartwatch could make a difference.
According to market intelligence company IDC, as cited by Market Watch, the sales of the first-generation wearable saw a 55 percent decline, from an initial sales of 3.6 million units in the first three months, to 1.6 million units in the final quarter. The sales reduction presumably hurt Apple's sales status, not to mention that price discount has factored in.
In terms of specification, an added feature to the Apple Watch 2 is the GPS connectivity. As per PC Advisor, the device is set to have a built-in GPS chip, which lets users to use the wearable even without an iPhone. Thus, it is assumed that users can track their activities, without too much reliance on the handheld mobile device.
Overall, Apple's Watch 2 is set to come out in September.
