While Apple has not launched a successor to its 21.5-inch iMac version for long, a latest report claims that the Cupertino-based tech titan is likely to come out with a replacement soon.

Quoting 9to5Mac, IB Times reports that secret data rummaged from the most recent OS X El Captain beta suggests that Apple will soon release a 21.5-inch iMac. The website is reported to have come across mention of Mac support for several dissimilar screen resolutions in the second OS X 10.11 beta. One of these refers to an upcoming 21.5-inch iMac with 4K display. It may be noted that the second OS X 10.11 beta version was released to developers last week.

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, "Likely destined for a refreshed version of the 21.5-inch iMac, which currently does not have a Retina display, the new El Capitan beta references Mac support for a new 4096 x 2304 resolution Apple-made display panel."

The 9to5Mac report says that since the relatively pricey and bigger 27-inch iMac comes with an impressive 5K display, the smaller 21.5-inch screen iMac may receive a facelift with a 4K resolution. Meanwhile, a report in BGR states that the 21.5-inch iMac with 4K screen resolution, also called Apple's consumer-oriented desktop, will is likely to be released in this fall, just before the holiday shopping season.

In addition to the reference of the 4K display panel, an image of the software upgrade mentions a new Intel graphics chip called "Iris Pro 6200." It is believed that this latest Broadwell-integrated GPU will be incorporated into the upcoming 4K iMac.

The code also refers to a series of AMD Radeon R9 processors, including the M380, M390, M395 and M395X. This suggests that aside from the 21.5-inch iMac, more variants of the desktop are likely. According to 9to5Mac, if these do not suggest different variants of the 21.5-inch iMac, they could refer to iMac upgrade options. In addition, the code also mentions a brand new Bluetooth remote control.
