Apple Music Subscription News: Uptick In Number Of Subscribers, Though Still Far Behind Spotify?

There's a bit of good news for Apple Music as the number of subscribers reached a record 17 million since its launch in June, 2015. But that figure is dwarfed by Spotify's nearly 40 million subscribers.

The news about Apple Music was announced by CEO Tim Cook during the company's event on Sept. 7.

What's even more impressive was that in June this year, Apple Music had 15 million subscribers. That's two million more in just two months. According to The Verge, one biggest advantages for Apple's app was its exclusives, just like the album "Blonde," Frank Ocean's follow-up to "Channel Orange."

Previously, the company announced the news about revamping the look of Apple Music, Tech Crunch reported. That was in June but there's no evidence about a direct correlation in the overall design to the uptick in subscribers.

Spotify, meanwhile, still leads the pack with about 39 million subscribers. CNET said that over recent months, Spotify and Apple Music actually had a similar pace in the number of subscribers. But Spotify had the big lead in the first place.

Meanwhile, the recent news on the Apple Music is definitely welcomed by the company considering that the iPhone has suffered a slump in unit sales.

According to The Verge, iPhone sales total in Q3 was about 40.4 million units against the 47.5 million for the same period last year. That's a difference of about 15 percent. Interestingly enough, the company has declined to reveal the initial sales figures for the recently launched iPhone 7.
