Apple iWatch vs Swatch Smartwatch Specs, Features Review and Comparison: Swiss Watch Maker to Release Non-Charging Smartwear
Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch had announced in the summer of 2014 that it would be launching a wearable smartwatch that would match Apple's upcoming maiden wearable device - the Apple Watch. A recent report in the financial media outlet Bloomberg has now hinted that the new Swatch device may dampen the market of some other tech firms that are also planning to release their respective smartwatch models shortly.
According to Christian Today, Swatch CEO Nick Hayek has recently stated that the upcoming wearable device of his company will be connected to the Internet. He further said that the upcoming smartwatch will be able to work even "without having to be charged." However, the Swatch executive did not offer much detail as to how the upcoming gadget will function, but if his claims turn out to be true, it may spell lot of trouble for competitors.
The report says that the pace of evolution of battery technology is very sluggish and presently most manufacturers seem to be overlooking this feature in their respective mobile devices. At present, most smartwatches in the market running on Google's modified Android Wear platform come with a small-sized battery, which requires charging every day with a view to keep it functioning throughout the day. The same is true fro the upcoming Apple Watch. According to recent rumors, the battery life of the Apple wearable device is likely to be appalling. If this turns out to be true, it is going to be a great advantage for the purported Swatch wearable device that is yet to be named.
As far as wristwatch manufacture is concerned, Swatch is an authority primarily owing to several decades of experience and this may prove to be a threat for Apple. Even the high price range of Apple devices may go against the Cupertino-based company, but prove to be an advantage for the Swatch wearable. In addition, Hayek says that the upcoming Swatch smartwatch will also incorporate a mobile payment service which will not only be compatible with Windows, but also the Android devices.
Although Swatch has not announced the precise launch date of its upcoming smartwatch, it is expected that the device will be released close to the launch of the Apple Watch, which is expected sometime in April.
