Apple iWatch Third-Party App News: Apple Starts Releasing First Batch of Apps for New Smart Watch

While consumers will have to wait for another 15 days to avail the Apple Watch for preview in Apple Stores, a number of apps selected by the Cupertino-based tech titan are already available on the App store. Some of these apps add Apple Watch support and include Twitter, Target, Sky Guide, The New York Times, Dark Sky and much more.

9to5Mac reports that many developers continue to work on Apple Watch apps prior to the release of the device in April, but are not able to submit their Watch-specific updates, it is clear that Apple has flipped the switch on the select third-party apps being promoted alongside the Apple Watch.

Perhaps, the apps are being released to the public long before the release of the highly anticipated Apple Watch, to allow the usual Apple Watch reviewers to access third-party Apple Watch apps. It is expected that these apps will be included with Apple Store Apple Watches with a view to show customers how the common third-party apps from their iPhones are also able to work with the new device.

According to the report, Apple Watch support has been included in some of the existing App Store iPhone apps including Air Canada, AliPay, ECB Cricket, Babbel, Expedia, Dark Sky, Evernote, Line, Kitchen Stores, Qantas Airways, MLB.com At Bat, Procreate Pocket, Sky Guide, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Redfin, Runtastic Six Pack, SPG: Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Things, Target, Transit App, Twitter, Yahoo Tourney Pick'Em and WeChat.

With the passing of each day, an increasing number of apps are rolling out. A user can update to or download these versions of each iPhone app now, while the functionality of Apple Watch will not work until their iPhone is paired with the new device.
